A Periodontist is a dental specialist focusing on the treatment of periodontal disease. Periodontal, or gum disease is an infection of the tissues that support your teeth caused by dental plaque. A Periodontist is trained in diagnosing and treating periodontal disease ranging from nonsurgical to surgical therapy. Periodontal disease may begin with bleeding gums and usually progresses pain-free. It is recommended to have the supporting tissues, mainly your gums and supporting structures, evaluated to determine the health of your gums.
